Location for NSA Tent at Vancouver Marathon

April 26, 2006

We will be setting up a tent for all of our NSA Marathon Clinic Members in the far South West corner of the parking lot just West of BC Place Stadium. We will be serving awesome Delaney's Coffee House and some treats starting 6:00am.

Half's, I will be warming you up at 6:30am for your race. I will be warming the fulls up at 7:10am to get you all prepared.

We will have two NSA staff watching the tent all day so you can drop your bags off with us and we will take care of them for you. This way you can relax and prepare for your race in comfort with your friends and family.

Thanks so much to Bitsy and Jeff for arranging to have coffee for all of us from Delaney's Coffee House so early in the morning.

Gut Buster Race Report

April 19, 2006

145_4577.jpgUp at the crack of dawn to catch a ferry over to Nanaimo and head down to Mt. Tzouhalem in Duncan for the 3rd race of the Gutbuster Series. The morning was super wet and chilly which meant the course would be even more sketchy than it usually is. I raced this event last year only a week after Vancouver Marathon and it kicked my butt big time. We all huddled together at the start line and as I looked around all I could see was super serious looking fast people. These races are stacked with talent and always are very fast. The start was quick and everyone settled into there positions. We climbed straight up for 40:00 minutes with my lungs hanging out of my chest and every ounce of my body screaming to stop. I won’t lie to you usually I thank every single volunteer on course but on the way up I could not spare the breathe. We reached the top and It was go time as downhills are my favorite. The last 25:00 minutes were pure heaven as we blitzed down this mountain fearless about footing. I hit a few trees and almost slid of the trail countless times as the trail conditions were very muddy and slippery. I came through 1:05:24 which was significantly better than last years 1:09:50 so I was pretty stoked about that. I also got to watch my good friend Tara-Lee Marshall come through winning the womens’ open division which was great. I improved my time and felt great afterwards and we headed to Boston Pizza for some eats.

One thing that really surprised me and speaks volumes about heart rate training was the fact I have not done any speed work for months and I was able to come out and shave 5 minutes on an 11km course off my time from last year. This really shows you that aerobic efficiency is the key to getting faster and stronger. So when you have the urge to speed up on those long runs remember you are also building speed even though you are running slow. Something to think about out there during your training.Visit the link below for official results Jhttp://www.gutbustertrailrun.com/results.htmlSee you all soon      Paul Purin

Good Luck Half/Full Marathoners

April 18, 2006

Hello Everyone in the half and full Marathon Clinic. Just wanted to wish all you guys good luck on your event thats soon apporoaching. I did the Full marathon last year and I had the most amazing experience. You feel so accomplished afterwards and you are so proud of yourself. You train for so long and then you accomplish something and its a great moment. Enjoy it!!! I would really suggest coming to the Post marathon event. It is a good time to talk to other people you got to know in the clinic and celebrate a job well done. Unfortunetly I will not be there running with you but I will be watching and cheering everyone on.

 Good luck again,

Nicola Gildersleeve
