Aloha from Honolulu. I ran a 22 mile run on the last 20 miles of the Honolulu Marathon course this morning. I started at 5:00 am local time, 7:00 am Vancouver time and ran the last 20 miles of the course. I was pretty well on my own until the sun came up (6:30) then I started to run into other runners. I got to talk to all sorts of locals and had a great run. My plan was to run 75-80% of max but that kind of went out the window on the way back from Hawaii Kai (the marathon turn around). I had a tail wind out to the turn around then a head wind and rain on the way back. It was about 75 degrees F so it was not unpleasant. I caught a guy that wants to break 3:15 and he picked up the pace till we were running 90% (it is easy to get caught up even 2.5 hours into a long run). It is nice to run here as I don' t find I get stiff and sore and I don't get too cold.

I hear the coast had about 12 centimeters of snow. My brother has been shoveling snow and meeting the neighbours. We had to wait an extra half hour in Seattle for them to de-ice the wings yesterday and boy, were we glad to take off.

All is well here.

Happy training!

Regards,

Hi Mark !
I wanted to let you know that I really appreciated your tips you shared as you passed by me at a few miles into the run at Kona. I was having trouble finding my legs and feeling the heat somewhat. The ice in the cap worked wonders, I am thankful I saw you and your words helped me - finished in 11:49 - Happy with that............ hope to get back there someday !
Good luck in your upcoming marathons...........
Regards......... Ann BArnes

Hi everyone,
I figured it was time for an Ironman Canada 2007 report. This year was my 13th Ironman Canada and my 19th ironman race. I entered the race feeling I had to prove to myself and others that I could still race this distance competitively after my accident this year. I had lots of great training opportunities and partners this year with North Shore Athletics and the North Shore Triathlon club. I figure I ended up training up to 25 hours a week on top of working, mowing the lawn, assisting with the clinics and all. I worked the North Shore Athletics tent at Ironman Canada with Keith, Tom, Bryan, Christie, Denise, Jenn, Laura, Kallym and the other staff. This kept me from over training and was a great way to see all the competitors and supporters. It also turned out to be a great place to meet for meals & workouts. The day of the race dawned a little cloudy, cool and windy, not my kiind of conditions. I was hoping for heat and calm. You take what you get! I had a decent swim with 2,600 of my closest friends then it was bike time. The bike ended up windy and I was stung by a bee. I was glad that Jordan, Shannon & I trained on the course a number of times. I got to see them and lots of friends of family on course. I had to make up for a tough ride by working the run. It was nice to have done lots of clinic long runs as the run went by just like a Sunday workout. I high-fived friends and fellow competitors on course and finished in 10:37 good for 5th in my age category and qualified me for Ironman Kona (the world championships!) I am writing this from Hawaii where I am training and recuperating. I a managed to get through Ironman Kona in 11:21 - it was hot & windy and am training up to run New York & Honolulu Marathons. I figure I am only as good as my next race. Happy training everyone!

A terrible loss to our communtiy. RIP. May these words help others as they have helped me.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave
and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
